Medicaid redetermination comes for expansion population

Medicaid redetermination comes for expansion population

As you know, clients of the Oregon Health Plan must update their application annually. Current members were not required to renew their applications during the transition to expanded Medicaid enrollment under the Affordable Care Act.

The Oregon Health Authority now is gearing up to recommence redetermination for members whose due date would have been last fall, winter or spring. They will also begin early redetermination for members who came onto the plan January 1, 2014. The goal is to have redetermination complete by the end of the year for all members of the expansion population.

Members fall into two categories:

  • Expedited Renewal—Approximately, 340,000 households meet the criteria to reapply for OHP through this expedited process, allowing members to fill out a short renewal form attesting to their current income and household size. This means they will not be required to fill out a full application in order to renew their benefits. A copy of the letter and form will be posted on OHA’s client webpage at
  • Full Application—The expedited processes will not include the approximately 120,000 individuals who applied for OHP through the fast-track option implemented last year. Fast-track enrollees’ redetermination process will include a full application to renew their benefits. OHA will request the renewal of these members in waves, starting soon and finishing by the end of 2014.

If your patients who are Oregon Health Plan members have questions about renewal, they can visit or call 1-800-699-9075 or 711 (TTY), Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
