In recognition of CareOregon’s 25th anniversary, each month we’re featuring a story of the programs, people or providers who are the components of our story.

Dr. Nicholas Gideonse says the medical home allows him to do more for patients.

Dr. Gideonse enthusiastically embraces the primary care medical home, supported by CareOregon’s alternative payment model. At OHSU Richmond Clinic in southeast Portland, where he is a medical director, Dr. Gideonse says that support frees him to be proactive in treating patients.

He and colleagues have published their work at the clinic on adding comprehensive behavioral health strategies to medical treatment of people with substance use disorder, finding it reduces barriers and expands access to care.
