Oral health and the future of integrated health care

Oct 19, 2020, 07:00 AM

CareOregon Dental partnered with five Federally Qualifying Health Centers (FQHCs) to improve their community’s overall health through integration of oral with physical and behavioral health. This film highlights the transformative vision, partnerships and community impact of integrated healthcare through the lens of patient, multi-disciplinary providers, health plan, and FQHC leadership.

To improve clinical integration and patient engagement, CareOregon Dental provided nearly $2 million in financial backing along with significant technical assistance and support to OHIP partners. Innovative projects include: immunizations in dental settings, hygienists embedded in primary care, trauma-informed care in dental settings, occupational therapy to increase oral health-promoting behavior, enhancements to the combined electronic health record, and community mobile dental care. In addition to discussing their individual projects, healthcare partners also share the power of the collective through the OHIP Learning Collaborative. The Learning Collaborative is a year-long networking of OHIP partners and CareOregon cross-disciplinary faculty, that supports the spirit of integration by sharing of best practices, lessons learned, barriers and solutions, and spread of initiatives.
