Portland, Ore. — CareOregon has been named one of the 100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon by Oregon Business Magazine. The health care organization was recognized as sixth among large workplaces (50 or more employees) at a presentation September 29. There are more than 30,000 nonprofits registered in Oregon.

This ranking comes a week after CareOregon was included among the Top Workplaces of 2016 listing by The Oregonian, placing third among large employers (500 or more employees). CareOregon also earned the top honor for work/life flexibility among employers of all sizes in the Oregonian rankings. Both The Oregonian and Oregon Business Magazine honors were determined after a survey of employees.

“Being recognized twice in one week as a great place to work is more than double the honor,” said Eric C. Hunter, CareOregon chief executive officer. “The focus of our whole organization, top to bottom, is to provide great health care and promote healthier communities for our members. To be successful we need the commitment, passion and innovation of every one of our employees. It’s wonderful that our employees believe CareOregon is a great place to work, and I thank them for making that possible.”

CareOregon provides managed health care services to about 250,000 Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) members through its association with four Coordinated Care Organizations (CCOs) and through a Medicare Advantage plan and a dental care plan. It is affiliated with Health Share of Oregon in the Portland Metro area, Columbia Pacific CCO on the North Coast and Jackson Care Connect in Jackson County. It also provides back office services (Claims, Customer Service, etc.) for Yamhill Community Care, which also was recognized as a Best Nonprofits to Work For. CareOregon employs more than 600 employees, the majority in the Portland area, with some on the coast and in Jackson County.

“Most people who work for nonprofits are devoted to their organization’s mission,” Hunter said. “That is certainly true for our team. It’s great to be able to enable that devotion with a great place to work.”
