For years, CareOregon has been honored to partner with the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) and Oregon’s nine federally recognized Tribes to support the health and well-being of Native communities. We’ve worked alongside NAYA to invest in programs that provide culturally responsive care, reinforce self-sovereignty and ensure access to essential health services.

For 30 years, CareOregon has been at the heart of creating healthier communities across Oregon—from breaking barriers in access to care, housing, workforce development and behavioral health, to partnering with communities to craft lasting solutions.

In 1993, two Portland health care leaders sat down for a candid discussion. As the Oregon Health Plan took shape, Billi Odegaard, director of the Multnomah County Health Department, and Dr. Peter Kohler, president of OHSU, saw another need: a health plan wholly dedicated to serving Medicaid recipients under OHP’s pioneering approach. Their instincts were spot on. And their vision turned into CareOregon.

For three decades, CareOregon has been committed to ensuring Oregon communities have access to equitable and high-quality health care that meets the needs of our diverse members—and that means starting with the people who provide it.
